The Dalai Lama does not Twitter

ANYONE dumb enough to think that the Dalai Lama would talk to them on the social networking system Twitter is living under an illusion.

Over the weekend the news agencies were all a flutter after the 14th Dalai Lama appeared to have signed up to Twitter.

More than 20,000 people signed up to the Dalai Lama account before Twitter shut it down as a fraud.

According to a Twitter spokesman it is deemed naughty in the eyes of the site organisers if you “impersonate others in a manner that does or is intended to mislead, confuse, or deceive”.

Certainly the site did a convincing job with suitably esoteric messages that didn't actually mean much but generally said how nice it would be if people got along for a change.

"Each of us has responsibility for all humankind. It is time for us to think of other people as true brothers and sisters and to be concerned for their welfare, with lessening their suffering," the site said.
