The former NYPD detective who has been Bernie Madoff’s bodyguard since the accused Ponzi schemer has been out on bail is quitting.Nicholas Casale said someone else will have to watch over Madoff in his East Side apartment because his company is not equipped to track down the disgraced money manager’s assets across the globe.
That duty was recently dumped on Casale when it was made a condition of Madoff’s bail.
“The added requirement of providing worldwide inventorying of your client’s possessions is something we are not structured to fulfill,” Casale wrote in a letter sent to Madoff attorneys on Monday and filed in Manhattan Federal Court Thursday.
Casale will be replaced by Stroz Friedberg Investigations on Feb. 1, whose tab will be picked up by Madoff’s wife. Read the rest of this entry »
